Ryazan region is situated in the centre of the European part of Russia (to the south-east from Moscow). River the Oka divides the region into 2 parts: the northern and the southern.
The climate is temperate continental.

The region is divided into 25 districts, 4 towns of the regional submission, 8 towns of district submission, 28 town settlements, 505 villages.
Centre of the region is the town of Ryazan. It was founded in 1095. Distance to Moscow is 196 km.
