The Republic of Udmurtiya

Geographical location
The Republic of Udmurtia is situated in Eurasia, in the eastern part of the East-European plain. The Republic is a constituent of the RF. It borders on Kirov region in the north and the west, on Perm region in the east, on Bashkortostan in the south-east and on Tatarstan in the south.
Area of Udmurtia is 42.06 thousand sq. km. By its territory the republic surpasses such states as Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland. Length of the territory from north to south is 320 km, from west to east - 200 km.
Climate is continental with long, cold, snowy winters and warm summers.
The Republic is rich in oil, coal, peat, building materials. Natural resources are delivered from Siberia, Ural, Povolzhje.

Administrative division
The Republic is divided into 25 administrative districts. The capital of Udmurtia is Izhevsk, situated on the river - the Izh, a tributary of the Kama.
Science and education
Due to development of highly technological production a great intellectual and scientific potential is concentrated in the Republic. There are 23 research centers in Udmurtia.
160 Masters and 1000 Doctors of Science work in 4 state and 3 private higher and 10 secondary special educational establishments. There are 100 schools and 230 kindergartens in the republic.
