Belgorod area

Geographical location
Belgorod area is situated in the south of the European part of the Russian Federation. It borders on Ukraine. The region is located in the intersection of rail- and highways.
The centre of the region is the town of Belgorod, situated in 700 km to the south from Moscow. Its population is 339 thousand people.

Natural resources
More than 40% of deposits of iron ore are in the region. There are supplies of bauxites, apatites, chalk, sands, clay, granite in the region. Precious and rare metals have been found. In the region there are vast mineral reserves of Kursk magnet anomaly.

Science and education
The region has a developed network of professional education. It includes 66 educational establishments, among them - 4 higher educational establishments and 3 departments of Institutes, 26 secondary special colleges, 33 technical colleges. More than 70 Masters and 600 Doctors of Sciences work in the region.

Culture
In Belgorod region there are 927 clubs, 735 libraries with overall fund of 11 million copies of books and magazines, 691 film projectors, 2 professional theatres, 18 state museums.
