The Republic of Komy

Geographical location
The Republic of Komy is situated in the north-east of the European part of the RF. In the west, north-west and north the Republic borders on Arkhangelsk region, in the east - Tyumensk region, in the south-east - Sverdlovsk region, in the south - Perm region, in the south-west - Kirov region. Area of the Republic is 416.8 thousand sq. km (2.4% of territory of Russia).
Length of the Republic from north to south - 785 km, from west to east - 695 km.
Continental length of the territory, closeness of the Arctic and Atlantic Oceans, presence of the Urals create peculiarity of the climate in the Republic. The Republic is located in arctic and temperate climatic zones. Winter is long and severe, summer is short and cool.
The Republic has unique mineral resources. There are reserves of oil, 1/3 reserves of gas, half of forests of the European North.

Administrative division
The Republic of Komy is divided into 20 districts. Population is 1193.5 thousand people (0.8% of population of the RF). 890.9 thousand live in towns, 302.6 thousand live in villages.
State languages - Komy and Russian. The capital of the Republic is Syktyvkar.
Distance from Syktyvkar to Moscow is 1410 km.
