Geographical location
Oryol region was founded in 1937.
Region is situated in the central part of the East-European plain. It borders on Kursk region in the south, on Bryansk region in the west, on Kaluga region in the north-west, on Tula region in the north and the north-east, on Lipetsk region in the east.
Main river of the region is the Oka.
The climate is continental.
Administrative division
Oryol region is divided into 23 districts, 3 towns of the regional submission, 4 towns of district submission, 14 town settlements, 221 villages.
Centre of the region is the town of Orel, founded in 1566. Distance to Moscow is 382 km.
Big towns are Orel, Livny, Mtsensk.
