Kurgan area

Geographical location
Kurgan region is situated in the south of West-Siberian plain. The region borders on Kazakhstan in the south and the south-east, on Chelyabinsk region in the south-west, on Sverdlovsk region in the north-west, on Tyumen region in the north.
Main rivers are the Tobol and its tributary the Iset. In the region there are about 2,000 lakes.
The climate is sharp continental.

Administrative division
The region was founded in 1943.
Kurgan region is divided into 23 districts, 2 towns of the regional submission, 7 towns of district submission, 6 town settlements, 398 villages.
Centre of the region is the town of Kurgan. It was founded in 1782. Distance to Moscow is 1,973 km.
Main towns: Kurgan, Shadrinsk.
